Six types of Marine Corps unit flags, of the 'double flag' type, were mentioned in "Illustrations of the Flags of the Armed Forces" published in 1959. The Marine Corps Command flag was illustrated and described; for that of Division, Brigade, Regiment, Battalion and Company, only the small flags above them were shown, along with the note "... the flag sizes shall correspond with the equivalent Army units". All these flags had no fringes, and the sizes of the red flagpoles, along with their white metal spearhead finials and pike bases, were not specified.

Marine Corps unit flags in the 1950s were based on Army unit flags adopted in 1953; moreover Marine Corps uniforms were mentioned specifically in the Naval Dress Regulations for the first time in 1954.

In 1963 yellow fringes were added to the Marine Corps Unit flag; Marine Corps Companies lost their distinctive flag design, and adopted the Marine Corps Unit flag instead. The unit names are written in red letters on the white scrolls.

Thanks Mr. Li gave us such a precious historical video on the Double Tenth's Military Parade in 1961.
According to the official archives, the Taiwanese military authorities didn't require the flags of units of all services to be decorated with fringes until 1961. With Chiang Kai-shek's approval, the authorities ordered all services to add fringes on the flags of units in early 1962.
